Around here particularly, we are ALL in this together.
Having dedicated my life to road racing, track and cross country I know what it’s like to be the stepchild of the sports world and that’s what hockey is here and what attracted me to the YOTES in the first place.
Cover em all Craig.. “ On the Sofa” with some kids team coach or a kid!
I'm pretty neutral on the idea of ASU coverage. It's still Arizona hockey so I want to see it do well and is nice to be up to date but I also don't really put in much time to following college sports. Thanks for the article Craig.
I'd be delighted to get ASU Hockey coverage here! I think you should scoop up an ASU student as an intern to show them how proper coverage works with the integrity of being a first rate reporter. You'll need a second pair of hands for that occasion hockey game overlap between ASU and Coyotes game night. I'd also be curious to see if an intern gets different info from a player interview than would some of the elder statesmen of the biz. :D
I follow some junior teams and some college teams so I was excited for this article. I usually follow Coyotes prospects or PTO's and other invitees to camp. I'm glad you mentioned Sean Dhooge. He's a fun player to watch and makes Garland look huge. He played in Madison WI with some top prospects so he's definitely one to watch.
Also a late "just getting around to reading this...' - work getting me tied up lately, amirite?
Anyhoo - I've had a lot of fun watching them develop this program and have made it a point to get to at least one of their GRA games each season since getting seats at Oceanside is problematic, although I weathered the "obstructed view" Coyotes years at AWA, I just can't seem to find myself wanting to do that anymore, lol...
Obviously Coyotes are your bread and butter, Craig - but I wouldn't say no to reading more about Sun Devil hockey at all.
It took me a while to circle back to this article, but I'm glad I did. Coach Powers is a really magnetic guy and he's got a great thing going with that program. Do you have any updates on their arena being built on campus? I had someone tell me that they broke ground and quit working on it, and I'm so rarely in Tempe that I haven't been over to look myself this year.
Ditto on the ASU arena situation, or on the new sheets of ice coming to the Valley in general. Kachina's new home in Mesa, Legacy up near Anthem, ASU, and perhaps Tucson?
Pertaining to Sun Devil hockey, how about a look at Chicago Steel Josh Doan who will be incoming to ASU next year I believe. Great stuff as always Craig.
I read in azcentral that they hadn't been planning on breaking ground until November - no clue if that is still the goal (see what I did there? ;) ), tho.
Very good interview.
Great that you are considering covering it too.

Good idea Craig!
Seems to be the prevailing sentiment.

Understood. I just want to make it clear that covering ASU will in no way decrease my coverage of the Coyotes. Thanks for the feedback, Dylan.
In that case I'm all for it! I will admit that was a concern I had.
Gotcha. I will make that clear to everyone.

I think I just got labeled an "elder statesman."

He's on my list of feature ideas.

They did break ground and then stop working on it. I'll look into it.
